Redeemer is a new church in a historic city, started for the purpose of bringing the never-changing Gospel in new and refreshing ways to the downtown community of Athens. Redeemer began as a small Bible Study in September of 1996 and through God's providence acquired the property of our present location. We hope to use this facility for the reaching of the lost and the equipping of believers.
Redeemer exists to bring the historic Christian faith to bear on Athens in the hope and expectation that as we proclaim the reality of the resurrected Christ, visible changes will occur in the quality of its life: spiritually, socially and materially.
Redeemer hopes to reflect the diverse community of Athens. It is our desire that this congregation be a place where it is safe for both the Christian and the non-Christian to wrestle with the questions that relate to the extraordinary claim of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. (After all he does ask us to die to self daily.) As C.S. Lewis states so pointedly, "Christianity is either true and of infinite importance or not true and of absolutely no importance, but one thing Christianity can never be is moderately important." Here we are challenged to face the implication of the Gospel for all of life.
